The village of Clinton is expanding opportunities for residents to stay active, connect with others and enjoy new recreational offerings this year, with registration opening Friday, May 1, for several sports programs.
Helping lead this new chapter of local recreation offerings is Bryan Gala, the village’s new parks and recreation coordinator.
“Bryan brings energy and enthusiasm to the role and will be instrumental in developing and growing recreational programming for the community. His focus is on creating opportunities for residents of all ages and skill levels to participate, have fun and build connections through sports and recreation,” Village Clerk Leslie Owens said in a news release. “Bryan’s addition marks an exciting step forward for our parks and recreation efforts. We’re looking forward to expanding programming and creating more ways for the community to get involved.”
The village of Clinton offers a variety of sporting events for all ages with facilities located at Tate Park, 475 W. Michigan Ave.
Gala and his wife, Emily, have called Clinton home for more than 15 years, where they are raising their two children, ages 10 and 14. A dedicated sports enthusiast and community supporter, Gala serves as a varsity bowling coach and has spent the past decade founding, organizing and coaching the Clinton Men’s Softball League.
In his free time, he enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors, bowling, golfing, camping, cooking or jogging. He regularly participates in 5K races and is currently training for his first half-marathon.
“Bryan’s strong community ties, passion for recreation, planning and organizational skills, and commitment to serving others make him a great fit for this newly created role,” the village said.
Volleyball leagues will be among the first programs available for registration on May 1, Gala said. Designed for both beginners and experienced players, the leagues will offer a fun, team-oriented atmosphere that emphasizes friendly competition, skill development and community engagement.
Also opening for registration are drop-in pickleball sessions, providing a flexible option for players to join at their convenience.
One of the fastest-growing sports in the country, pickleball continues to attract participants of all ages thanks to its accessibility, social nature and fast-paced play, the village’s news release said. The drop-in format makes it an ideal option for both seasoned players and those interested in trying the sport for the first time.
Looking ahead, Gala said he is planning for a fall co-ed softball league, which is currently in the works with more details coming soon.
“These programs represent just the beginning of broader efforts to expand recreation opportunities in Clinton. Residents are encouraged to register early and watch for future program announcements,” said Gala.

Gala’s hiring as parks and recreation coordinator allows him to join the village’s team of recreation coordinators including Owens — who is director of the Clinton soccer program — Jonathan Servoss, U4-U8 soccer coordinator and Jake Hollenbeck, U10-U15 soccer coordinator.
